BRADFORD Council staff were left “intimidated and upset” after fascist Britain First leader Paul Golding staged a confrontation demanding action against alleged “Asian grooming gangs.”

The council is installing extra protection for employees in front-line offices and deploying additional security personnel after the incident at the city centre Mitchell House offices earlier this week.

Bradford council has warned its 8,500-strong workforce that the far right could stage more confrontations after Mr Golding demanded to know what action the council was taking on “grooming.”

He was asked to wait, but left when the deputy director of children’s services, Irfan Alam, arrived to deal with him.

Video footage of the incident, taken by an accomplice, was later posted on the Britain First website, with a reference to Bradford’s “Asian-led social services” department.

Council chief executive Kersten England wrote to staff warning that there could be more such incidents.

She wrote: “We feel aggrieved and dismayed that our staff have been made to feel this way and are putting in extra measures in our reception areas to help protect our staff from any future incidents like this in case the culprits return. 

“We work hard with our communities and we thoroughly condemn the activities of any extremist group that would attempt to create division.”

Unite Against Fascism joint secretary Weyman Bennett said: “Golding has no concern other than to advocate the murder of Muslims or people he designates as being non-British.

“We have to unite against any attempt to encourage Islamophobia, which this clearly this. Our solidarity must go to all those who Britain First have targeted in Bradford.”

West Yorkshire Police said they had been called by a member of staff at Bradford Council and were aware of the incident.
