Stevedores secure union recognition agreement

MORE than 125 port workers in Lincolnshire have secured union recognition, Unite announced yesterday.

The cargo port operatives, employed by C.RO Ports in North Killingholme, won the victory following positive talks between the union and management.

The company has agreed access for Unite’s organisers to help democratically elect a full complement of workplace representatives, with organisers on site every Wednesday and Thursday for four weeks starting yesterday.

C.RO Ports Killingholme LTD is part of a larger roll-on roll-off shipping services and ports company offering stevedoring work at a number of locations around Europe.

Unite regional officer Mike Wilkinson said: “There was overwhelming support amongst the port operatives for Unite representation.

“We’ve had constructive discussions with the company and we have been able to agree on Unite recognition.

“We believe this is a really positive development for the port and we look forward to giving the operatives the best and most professional collective representation.”
