Workers plan to strike for third time over pay

WORKERS at a manufacturing plant in Tyneside are to strike for a third time over pay.

Members of general union GMB at WD Close and Sons Fabrication Plant in Wallsend will strike on October 21 and 22.

The union says the company has imposed a pay freeze.

The workers have already staged strike action on September 11 and 12, and on October 3.

GMB organiser for the plant Donna Walker said: “What is really galling is that it would not take a great deal of movement to resolve this dispute.

“It should never have come to this, that our members have lost pay already and will now do so again next week.”

She said the union was seeking a resolution to the dispute but that the workers were prepared for further strike action if necessary.

“We hope the company are similarly committed to dispute resolution,” she said.
