AMAZON faces its biggest ever strike on Black Friday as more than 1,000 workers at the retail giant’s Coventry warehouse are set to join an international walkout, the GMB union has said.
Workers demanding a £15 basic hourly rate will stage their 28th day of action in the dispute while counterparts also strike across Europe and the United States.
GMB organiser Amanda Gearing said: “It’s clear that Coventry workers are inspiring Amazon workers worldwide to fight for their share of company profits.”
Black Friday — a bonanza for online retailers such as Amazon — has become a key date on the calendar for those campaigning internationally to “Make Amazon Pay.”
The strike coincides with a noon protest being held outside Amazon UK’s headquarters in Shoreditch, east London, backed by the GMB as well as charities Global Justice Now and War on Want.
Hackney North & Stoke Newington MP Diane Abbott and director of War On Want Asad Rehman are listed as speakers.
