Loch Lomond resort developers accused of ‘disinformation’ in planning appeal

DEVELOPERS behind twice-rejected plans for a theme park on Loch Lomond’s banks stand accused of distortion and disinformation to win favour with ministers.

Proposals for a Flamingo Land resort prompted a record 155,000 individual objections as well as opposition from the Woodland Trust, Ramblers Scotland, the National Trust for Scotland and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.

They were also unanimously rejected by the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park authority board in December.

Now developers have lodged an appeal, arguing that the park authority could have reduced the scale of the plans — which included a monorail, water park, two hotels, shops, restaurants and more than 100 woodland lodges — rather than reject them outright.

Green MSP Ross Greer said today: “Flamingo Land’s appeal is based on distortion and disinformation.

“The fact that Flamingo Land have come back with this outright nonsense shows the contempt they have for Balloch and Loch Lomond.

“They have spent a decade trying to exhaust the community into submission, but they have lost at every step.

“I urge the Scottish government to reject these catastrophic plans and end this sorry saga.”

Developers Lomond Banks and the Scottish government were contacted for comment.
