Mick Cash calls for the whole movement to mobilise against the far right

TRANSPORT union RMT general secretary Mick Cash will issue a rallying cry tomorrow to the whole trade union movement to mobilise against the far right.

Only a mass campaign that engages “workplaces and communities the length and breadth of the country” in the way previous generations did when threatened by fascism will be up to the task, he argues in tomorrow’s Morning Star.

Condemning the savage assault on RMT members including senior assistant general secretary Steve Hedley by fascist thugs in London last Saturday, Mr Cash warns that the attack was launched “in broad daylight on the streets of Westminster.”

Fascists are targeting trade unionists because of their socialist vision of an “inclusive and equal society where resources are harnessed for the benefit of the many,” he says.

Struggles like the campaign to keep the guard on the train or for a living wage for cleaners “demonstrate week in, week out that workers standing together can win,” Mr Cash points out, challenging the fascist agenda of sowing “division and hatred.”
