FMQs MSPs demand ministers ‘come clean’ on US use of Prestwick Airport for Syria attack

MINISTERS must “come clean” over whether US planes used Prestwick Airport for recent air strikes on Syria, an MSP said today.

At First Minister’s Questions, the issue was raised by Green MSP Ross Greer.

But Nicola Sturgeon was accused of avoiding the question when she said: “We have discussed the issue of Prestwick Airport and the commercial nature of what it does and the fact that what it does in terms of military flights is no different than what it has done all along.”

The role of the Ayrshire airport in US military flights was exposed earlier this year.

Speaking after FMQs, Mr Greer said: “The first minister did not answer my question.

“I suspect most Scots want to see peace in Syria and many are already appalled that Scottish government agencies give financial support to businesses involved in the arms trade.

“Ministers need to come clean about Prestwick's role.”
