Rail workers announce seven more strike days on South Western

RAIL workers have announced a further seven days of strike action on South Western Railway services in the long-running dispute over keeping safety-critical guards on trains.

It comes after Greater Anglia finally promised to keep guards on its trains after a long-running campaign from rail union RMT.

Operators in Scotland and Wales have also agreed to keep guards on trains.

South Western RMT members will strike on July 26, 28 and 31, August 4, 11, 18 and 31 and September 1.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: “RMT is making a very simple request of South Western Railway — that they take note of what is going on elsewhere in the rail industry and come forward with serious proposals that give a cast-iron guarantee of guards on their services.”
