VENEZUELA-BASED media organisation Telesur signed a training agreement with the University of Havana in Cuba on Friday as it faces a campaign to shut it down.

The multimedia company, which has studios in the Venezuelan capital Caracas, signed the co-operation agreement “to progress the training of our workers,” Telesur president Patricia Villegas said.

She added that it was “a privilege to establish collaborative ties with such a prestigious university” after meeting rector Miriam Nicado Garcia.

The Colombian journalist said that Telesur is at the service of Cuba and its revolution.

The relationship has developed at a time when hapless Venezuelan opposition figure Juan Guiado has threatened to close Telesur down by blocking the station’s signal.

Last week he threatened to “take steps to recover the Telesur signal in the continent,” making the unsubstantiated claim that it “supports terrorists.”

Ms Villegas blasted the self-declared interim president’s plan saying it “has no validity” and described him as “a force that has no capacity.”
